Short Bio:
Francisco Herrera is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Granada, where he simultaneously serves as the Director of the Andalusian Research Institute in Data Science and Computational Intelligence (DaSCI). Furthermore, he holds the prestigious position of Academician within the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain. He also completed his foundational academic training at the University of Granada, where he earned his Master of Science in Mathematics in 1988, followed by a Doctorate in Mathematics in 1991.
Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Herrera has demonstrated a strong commitment to mentorship and scholarly communication by supervising more than sixty doctoral dissertations and serving on the editorial boards of approximately a dozen scientific journals. He is an exceptionally prolific and influential researcher, having authored over six hundred peer-reviewed journal articles that have amassed more than 170,000 citations, yielding an h-index of 190 on Google Scholar. Reflecting this global impact, Clarivate Analytics has consistently recognised him as a Highly Cited Researcher in both Computer Science and Engineering since 2014.
His principal research endeavours encompass a wide array of advanced technological fields. Currently, Professor Herrera focuses his scientific investigations on computational intelligence, data science, information fusion, and complex decision-making systems. He also devotes significant attention to developing trustworthy and general-purpose artificial intelligence, continually working to advance systems that are robust, responsible, and highly capable.
Paulo Novais

Short Bio:
Paulo Novais is a Full Professor in the Department of Informatics and a researcher at the ALGORITMI Centre, School of Engineering, University of Minho. His primary research focus is the design of systems that are increasingly sensitive to human presence, progressively more intelligent, and reliable.
He currently serves as Director of the Doctoral Programme in Informatics and the Master’s in Artificial Intelligence at the School of Engineering, University of Minho. He also coordinates the Associated Laboratory of Intelligent Systems (LASI) and the CAIRNE | Guimarães Office, which constitutes the Portuguese branch of the Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe.
He served as President of the Portuguese Association for Artificial Intelligence (APPIA) from 2016 to 2019. He represents Portugal on the Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), chairs the Portuguese Chapter of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also a member of the Executive Committee of IBERAMIA – the Ibero-American Society of Artificial Intelligence.
